Details: George Kitson per ship Georgiana, assigned to Hamilton C. Sempill, charged with refusing to work and threatening his overseer....Joseph Williamson states - I am overseer at Segenhoe and on this day fortnight I ordered the prisoner to get some shingles and carry them up the ladder to me when I was at work which he refused to do saying he would throw them up but he would not carry them. I then took him to Mr. Dow who ordered me to give a spade and an axe and let him to stumping. I did so and on giving him the tools he threw the axe down and said he had a great mind to cut me down with the spade. And this day week he was chipping corn and on looking whether he had done it properly I found he had not I asked him to come back and look at it but he said he would not as it was past court time and I had done my best to get him punished and this morning he refused coming to court when ordered to do so by Mr. Dow. The prisoner admits the part that he did not do as he was ordered and stated ill health. The Bench find the prisoner guilty and sentence him to receive fifty lashes.

Details: Silas Noyes was indicted for feloniously receiving five brass coach boxes, ten brass rings, and seven pieces of brass, the property of William Godling, of Newbury, knowing the same to have been stolen. Mr. Golding, a founder at Woodspeen. For two years I had missed moulds, used for casting coach boxes. In November last, being about to take a partner, I looked over the stock, and missed three more; 40 pounds would not replace what I lost. Their value as old metal is very little. G. Smith an apprentice to Mr. Golding. The prisoner left my master about two years ago. In April, he (the prisoner) asked me if we had any old core boxes we had done using. I said we had one or two. He asked me to get him one in the course of the night. I after some scruples, agreed to do so, and took one which I gave him. He took it home and broke it. I went with him to Miss Jones. I did not go in. He gave me one shilling out of the money he got for it. After we had some beer, he asked me to get another. I said I would in a month or two. I got three more, which I gave to the prisoner, which he disposed of in a similar manner. Cross examined – Noyes used to get me out from my work to go drinking with him. Noyes proposed to me to steal the boxes. Miss Jones proved that the prisoner had brought pieces of brass, which she bought of him. The last time he brought brass, Smith was standing at the door. The Jury brought in a verdict of Guilty. The prisoner had been before convicted of felony, and the Court sentenced him to transportation for seven years.
